Longburton

Welcome to Longburton Methodist Church

Our church is situated on the Dorchester Road (A352) just south of the village, in the heart of Dorset.  The church building is grade 2 listed and was built in 1877.  The church is well maintained and recent developments have been a new heating system, wheelchair access and car parking.

Our services are held on the first Sunday* of the month at 11.00am and whether you are visiting the area, or living locally, you can be sure of a very warm welcome. Our morning worship style is traditional but our monthly 'Songs of Praise'* at 6.30pm provide an opportunity to develop other styles of worship which have proved very popular and are well attended.
*Our services are held on the first Sunday of the month plus our evening Songs of Praise usually on the third Sunday of the month (not in winter months).

As a Rural Church we are continually looking for ways to link more closely with the farming community.  Our previous deacon, Gary Hoare, explored new ways of reaching out to the community with us especially to the farmers and people who work in agriculture. He visited  Rylands Farm on a regular basis and encouraged the staff and people who attend, such as the Countrymen and the young people. Another link now exists with Hilfield Friary, where Gary and Brother Sam talked about genuine ministry to farmers and the people living in the countryside. Although Gary has moved on we do hope to maintain these links.

Over the years banners have been made during sewing afternoons which have proved to be a chance for fellowship among members.  We now have five banners for use at different times of the year.

We support Sherborne Food Bank.

Services are led by our team of Ministers, accredited Local Preachers and occasional visiting preachers.
